ADRIAN
Adrian began his story in the suburban desert town of Glendale, Arizona, just outside the bustling capital city of Phoenix. At birth, he became a ward of the state foster care system, but quickly integrated into a loving adoptive family who provided him with opportunities to create and to explore. His father was a South Dakotan by birth, but was raised on Long Island, New York; his mother was a Floridian hailing from outside the Orlando area. Thanks to their far-flung roots, Adrian’s parents ensured their son had traveled tens of thousands of miles across America before he entered kindergarten.
In 2003, following his father’s retirement, Adrian moved with his family to Jacksonville, Florida. Two years later, his father unexpectedly passed away, yet the family persevered and Adrian would go on to complete grade school in the city. Jacksonville would be where Adrian first received formal music training from a series of musical instructors. He excelled academically. By the age of twelve, he was in the ninth grade, appearing in both state and national piano competitions, and even delivered an impromptu performance of Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” on the piano of the Florida Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee during a school trip.
In 2013, Adrian graduated high school at the age of sixteen, two weeks after having earned an Associate of Arts degree from Trinity Baptist College. Two years later, in 2015, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the same school with dual majors in Business and History. Adrian was recognized as the youngest graduate to receive a four-year degree in the school’s history.
Adrian worked as a church pianist during college, allowing him to quietly establish his professional music career with the publishing and debuts of his first original pieces, Cello Canto No. 1, “The Lullaby,” and then Piano Reverie No. 1. After college, he found work as a full-time high school math and music history teacher, while on the side pursuing his first full-length album, The Pirates of Penzance: Revamped and Revisited. The album was released at the end of 2016 to the accolades of various notable performers who featured in prior national and international productions of the original operetta. Adrian’s new fans included Robby Benson, Karla DeVito, Patricia Routledge, among others.
In spite of all the growth Adrian was celebrating in his budding musical career, he realized he was not satisfied in his current station in life. While teaching could be fulfilling, he quickly discovered it was not the end-all to everything for him. He yearned for better opportunities to continue developing his talents and building upon his own knowledge. He eventually left his teaching post and moved on to the aviation world, where he was at least reunited with one of his earliest loves from childhood.
Now with music in one hand and access to travel to travel in the other, Adrian had finally achieved a more proper balance between helping others as well as himself. Today, Adrian presents himself with a new personal brand of FarawayHolmes™. He aims to share his growth, his art, and his adventures through this metamorphosing identify that shall always find itself home faraway from the mundane life on the shores of inspiration and adventure.
